Expert Removal
We will take off the layers all the way down to the original decking material. Sheathing and rafters will be inspected for water damage, potential termite damage and dry rot. As a new roof installation contractor, we’re required to replace any damaged wood and will arrange a tear-off inspection if your area requires it.

Your Sheathing
Your wooden sheathing, known as decking, will be carefully inspected for damage and replaced if needed. If your house was originally covered with wood shingles or shakes, it will have boards running horizontal to the rafters and spaced 4-6 inches apart. This so-called spaced decking can be an adequate substrate alone or topped with fresh decking. We’ll discuss the best alternatives for you.

The Underlayment
Every roof replacement needs an underlayment. Usually tar paper saturated with asphalt, this “felt” provides a water-tight barrier between the sheathing and the shingles. Underlayment is rated by types (formerly measured in pounds) and is usually fiberglass-reinforced for strength. As factory-trained new roof installation specialists, we’ll attach yours according to warranty specifications for a leak-proof fit.

Flashing
These metal strips are affixed around residential roofing edges, valleys, walls and penetrations like chimneys and vent stacks. These are the areas are most prone to leaks, so we’ll pay close attention to how we install the seals. At VIP, we always replace existing flashing to ensure a trouble-free system. Some walls might need the siding or stucco removed, especially when changing from one roofing material to another.

Proper Ventilation
Product warranties and building codes now require proper ventilation on any new roof installation. If you don’t have good airflow underneath your surface, attic temperatures will be uneven and you’ll waste energy. Hot spots could wear out the surface in summer and ice dams form in the winter. We’ll install extra venting at the eaves combined with continuous ridge-venting or eyebrow vents to achieve the proper flow.

Your Shingle Roof
Your decking and underlayment will be topped with fiberglass asphalt composition shingles. They are the most popular covering for a new roof installation; they are affordable, lightweight and fire-resistant. We can show you a wide array of styles, colors and even reflective types that cut your HVAC bills. They will be securely attached with zinc-coated nails, and we’ll drive them at the proper power and depth for the best adherence.

Finishing Touches
As part of the project, we’ll replace your rain gutters and downspouts to keep water flowing off of your new roof installation. The best types are 6 inches wide to help prevent damaging clogs.
